About

Hello my name is Matty White, I retired in 2018 after 46 years working with heavy equipment.
I have always been an active outdoorsman and was raised on a horse farm in Freehold, NJ.

My brothers and I were always outside taking care of animals, but any spare time we had was spent hunting, fishing, playing Army/building forts in the woods and barns. I started carving with knives when I was a kid ...and carried it on throughout my working years....mostly walking sticks, fishing lures and Christmas figures all carved out of white cedar which we have a lot of here.

After I retired I started hiking daily with my dog, Oz, in all parts of New Jersey, but mostly in my beloved 1.1 million acre Pine Barrens.

I always noticed pine knots around the forest floor, some on top, some half buried...but never thought much of it.

Until one day I was sitting out in the woods with Oz... carving a walking stick and I looked down and there was pine knot (a.k.a.) Fatwood.

So, I picked it up and tried to carve it and to my surprise it was hard as a rock!

Well, over time I have learned to work with this amazing wood using knives, rotary tools and saws.

Hence, Fatwood Creations.

I hope you enjoy my work.

I consider it all a gift from God.
